…TO REALISE THAT PERFORMANCE PROJECT I’VE PROMISED MYSELF I’D DO

With thanks to Arts NSW, Queen Street Studio is offering a Performing Arts Residency Program in 2013 that will provide free studio workspace at Heffron Hall (Darlinghurst) for Sydney-based performing artists from April to October. The residencies will vary from one-week to four-weeks in length, with 8 residencies up for grabs.

The aim of the residency program is to support artistic development and expression through a diversity of performing art practises. The residencies are open to professional artists and groups (emerging or established) encompassing a diverse range of practises and outcomes with an emphasis on projects that address professional development, the creation of new work and the investigation of innovative practice. All artists must come from NSW and priority will be given to local performing artists (defined as inner-city Sydney).

Successful applicants will be offered a stipend of $600 per week to assist artist/s expenses while undertaking their residency. All residency applications will be peer assessed by a panel of industry professionals. Please Note: Stipend will not be paid to projects that have received funding.

All residencies dates are fixed and give studio access on weekdays only between 10am–4pm at Heffron Hall; cnr Burton and Palmer Streets, Darlinghurst NSW.

For more information and application guidelines visit: http://www.queenstreetstudio.com/perf-arts-residency.html

… SEEK INSPIRATIONAL TRAINING OPPORTUNITIES AND INVEST IN MY CREATIVITY?

Register for a three day Viewpoints Masterclass led by New York based theatre maker, Laura Sheedy to be held at Hefron Hall in Darlinghurst from Thurs 14th to Sat 16th Feb, 2013.

Viewpoints is a technique of training and improvisation that articulates the two dominant elements that performers and directors deal with on stage – time and space. Viewpoints started in the dance world and was developed for the theatre by Anne Bogart and the SITI Company. It is now an incredibly influential force in contemporary theatre practice.

Participants will be immersed in the Viewpoints technique, creating work together spontaneously and intuitively, training in skills that generate dynamic theatre. This three day intensive will be an invaluable resource for makers of theatre, circus, dance and cross art-form live performance.

And if you’re already familiar with Viewpoints, this will be a wonderful opportunity to train.

Please email sheedy.laura@gmail.com for a registration form, or with any questions you may have. Payment is via Paypal and a $50 deposit secures your place.

After a month of celebration and almost four years of operation, FraserStudios will host its final hurrah tomorrow and we want you there. Queen Street Studio would like to invite you to our last drinks tomorrow from 2pm-10pm – to say goodbye to FraserStudios before we close its doors indefinitely and hand the keys back to our landlords.

For nearly 4 years this building has provided Sydney’s independent arts community with space to create… and like all good things, it’s come to an end.

So to celebrate we have a selection of amazing wines by Cake Wines, a yummy BBQ-inspired jaffle creeation by from Jafe Jaffles and a fun line up of acts including:

The mesmerizing tunes from the electronica act LUNIA (6pm),
The very old school, boogie woogie honky tonk styles of CHRISTA HUGHES (7pm),
And the psycho-blues-abilly oh-so-dirty two-piece WHITE KNUCKLE FEVER (8pm).

Please come down, mingle with other artists that have been a part of the FraserStudios community… and bring your dancing shoes!
